The Dragon Three eBook Victoria Perkins Reviews
With magic wands and a repertoire of spells to cast in the hands of boarding school teens there is no telling where the adventures will go. Fans of the Harry Potter and Hunger Games series are sure to enjoy this latest from Victoria Perkins. However, the similarities between those works and "The Dragon Three," are fleeting. Perkins scores some big points by using some interesting techniques to frame the key parts around the central theme in this precisely structured work. There are three main parts of the book, each include a Prologue, 10 chapters, and an Epilogue. The parts and chapters are fairly symmetric throughout the entire book.
On the pages of the first novella length section set in the land of Ortus, main character Brina Fine, arrives at Audeamus School of Higher Learning. Ortus is a land where everyone is born with an ability to use magic - except for those with a very special mission. Brina is one of the characters who will discover her destiny while attending Audeamus. First she meets up with her room mate Thana Decker and is introduced to the nuances of a boarding school reminiscent of a Harry Potter setting. No fantasy boarding school would be complete without a rival sporting event where students are put to the test against one another. At Audeamus, the game is Fuhjyn and of course Brina's specialty is playing in the key position of Latet. Eventually Brina befriends another thirteenth floor ally, Aidan Preston, who eventually took over as Captain of the Fuhjyn team.
One of this author's talents that kept me reading was her ability to keep the action moving without unnecessary description. As a reader, I found myself completely engrossed in discovering how a Fuhjyn match is played and scored. Perkins accomplishes this feat in about 4-5 pages of descriptive action, showing the reader only what they need to understand about the game without having to tell what the object of the game is or explaining complicated rules. I was looking forward to reading further for additional examples of this kind writing and was rewarded throughout.
No good fantasy novel that includes magic and dragons would be complete without a mystery to solve. Ancient writings on the face of a garden fountain challenge Brina, Thana, and Aidan to learn their meaning, which sets the three them on a pre-destined path.
I won't spoil the conclusion of Part One Dragon Eyes by elaborating on the plot elements. However, I will say that Brina is the central character and there is a dragon involved. Additionally, the final chapters and epilogue set up the other two parts of the novel. In short, the subsequent chapters feature Aidan and then Thana as central characters and the theme of good over evil prevails throughout as bits of personal history unfold in the mysterious lands that make up the settings for the battles that ensue. The stories converge with a very satisfying conclusion.
For me there were a few slow passages, particularly some of the interactions that take place between Thana, Aidan and the faculty members at Audeamus following the action in the first part of the novel. As a reader, I was very interested in the preparations each of the characters undertook while leading up to the final confrontations.
For the YA Fantasy reader, The Dragon Three is one that shouldn't be missed this summer. My review copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Great story involved three main characters – Brina, the youngest child in the large distinguished ‘Fine’ family. Her parents are well-known for their magical abilities at Brina’s new school but she has a secret that is bound to get discovered. Thana is the rich girl and also well-known at the Audeamus school and Brina’s roommate. In an adjoining room, Brina meets Aiden and they have an instant connection. Secrets, betrayals, bullies, and mysteries are found at the school but the three friends also discover an ancient prophecy that will change their lives forever.
This is a fast-paced action-packed thrill ride, which I thoroughly enjoyed. All three main characters play a major role in saving the realm. Great reading for teens on up. Highly Recommended.

Three separate short stories that all tie in, as it's each of the 3 main characters Points of View Brina, Thana, and Aiden.
It's a new year at the prestigious magical school of Audeamus School of Higher Learning. First year student Brina Fine comes from one of THE most magical families, except her secret is that she doesn't have any. Luckily her roommate Thana is all too happy to be her bestie and help her out. Then there's the neighbor Aiden that becomes her awesome bf and next thing Brina knows, it's the 3 of them against all of the magical world as they hunt an age old beast in order to destroy it. It ends up destroying a life in the process...
When Aiden loses someone special in his life, he not only goes on a binge to try and destroy himself, but when he's 'rescued' he learns his twin might still be alive. Only he has to team up with one women that he rather hates.
Thana is dealing with a loss as well, and the rumors that plague her at school. She makes a few new best friends and teams back up with Aiden to help finish the mission they all set out to accomplish a year ago.
I like that this had hints of spirituality in it, and trusting a higher power without being specific and 'preachy'. I hate preachy. But I like messages, and this did it well. Great book about friendship, trusting a "plan", and accomplishing goals.
Fans of Harry Potter and similar books might really like this.
This book is like 3 books in one!! I love the different story lines!! They all link together, but they still keep you guessing!! A book that you will not want to put down!!
