RED HEELS AND SMOKIN’ How I Got My Moxie Back by Nikki Hanna If you think being sixty-something is a bummer, humorist Nikki Hanna will convince you otherwise. A playful and inspiring tale of the adventures of a woman who re-defined aging, Red Heels and Smokin’ portrays the transitional years of the author after retirement. A gutsy, zany, and sometimes outrageous woman, Hanna is boldly candid as she dishes out amusing interpretations of her passage into what she calls the third trimester of life—her best time. She turns a tsunami of crises that threatened to overwhelm her into an amusing story of hope and passion. She does so by resurrecting the moxie that served her well in younger years. The rally will have readers rooting for her recovery and perhaps strategizing to initiate one of their own. With its wicked humor, Red Heels and Smokin’ is an amusing and buoyant read. People under fifty will see their future in a fresh light, and those over fifty will find encouragement and inspiration in Hanna’s astute interpretation of her aging experience and the story about how she got her moxie back.

This book is a MUST READ for any woman who mourns the loss of youth. It is redemptive for those who haven’t yet reached that place of acceptance and realization that the sixties can be the best decade ever. The author expresses thoughts I’ve had on my own journey. I wish I had had the presence of mind to think these thoughts with the humor this author uses. The chapters “Invisible: At Sixty you Begin to Disappear” and “The Aging Fairy Bitch-Slapped Me --- Hard” describe experiences to which I related but Nikki Hanna finds the words to have me re-think my reactions. Humor and self-deprecation are great antidotes to depression that often accompanies aging. Men, too, can benefit from Nikki’s observations. If someone of the male persuasion recognizes aspects of himself, the book will become a “how not to impress a woman” guide. For women under the age of 50, the book will be an enlightening wake-up call for grace in aging. Yes, it will happen to you. Nikki shows us that the decades of sixty and beyond are ripe with adventure, self-awareness and acceptance of what it is to be an older, vibrant, productive woman. This book is a laugh-out-loud experience.Product details

Red Heels and Smokin' How I Got My Moxie Back Nikki Hanna 9780982872673 Books Reviews
I was expecting fun and humor as I read this and boy, I got that! What I didn't expect was to find depth, purpose, and meaning on every page. I know this author and she is just as advertised, a handful as well as a wonderful role model for those of us who are aging and searching for our "moxie". Highly recommend this book!
Wow, this is Erma Bombeck on steroids with an attitude. What a very personal painful, insightfull journey into her sixties!
Men should read this book just to find out how an alpha women survives in our culture. Can't wait to see her continue the
journey into her seventies. The sardonic humour speaks to us all. She has mastered the proper use of expletives
to express the sometimes rage of the discounted women of her generation. Don't assume this is just a light read.
This book is extremely funny and at the same time, insightful. Nikki Hanna sees life in witty and humble way. There were times when my sides hurt and others when I recognized aspects of myself in the vivid characters the author encounters on her trek out of middle age. Buy this book if you want a roadmap to the third trimester of life or just want to laugh. Nikki isn’t pulling any punches.
A very funny book, even if it does make men look pretty hopeless. Just by chance I was sitting at an OWFI banquet table with Nikki Hanna when one of her short stories won the Creme de la Creme Award. I thought it was fiction, but after reading Red Heels & Smokin' I learned it was one of the hilarious stories that make up her social life. This book will keep readers laughing and might make them feel better if their own relationships don't always go as planned. You owe it to yourself to read this book.
If you've ever felt invisible in a room full of younger people, this book is for you. If it hasn't yet happened, it probably will. It happened to Nikki Hanna after she retired from a demanding job, and she didn't like it. In fact, her emotional state spiraled downward until she said ENOUGH and began the process of turning her life into something wonderful. Her book, which has been described as "hilariously obscene," is a painfully honest chronicle of her journey back to a meaningful life and is a witty guide for those of us who feel progressively hobbled by the realities of aging.
While readers may not share all of her experiences (cowboys? really?), they will almost certainly identify with her as she grapples with the loss of identity and the effects of gravity on face and body. She handles vital issues with a light touch that belies their significance; I frequently burst into laughter and then found myself pondering the truth of her words.
Hanna's efforts to avoid stagnation and recover her joy are inspiring without being Pollyanna-ish. (Think of a 60-something Bridget Jones.) Every self-help book should be so entertaining!
This is a Life-Affirming romp through how to age without surrendering. You may not be anything like Ms. Hanna, but the spirit with which she infuses her story should serve as an Owner's Manual for your older self. If you were born in the 1950's or before - Read This Book! If you're younger than that, you won't always be. So peer into your future through Nikki Hanna's eyes.
I laughed until I cried. Nikki Hanna is a gifted writer who splashes every paragraph full of honest truth, wonderful humor, and good advice.
Nikki tells her life story beginning at the age of thirty up to , well, lade adult . She builds on her own weakness, and shares her results. When it comes to selecting a male partner, her preferences draw her to cowboys, hunters, and outdoorsmen. She shares how each relationship ends and off she goes hopefully hunting the perfect man.
Nikki is a fun read. You will see yourself or a dear friend in her stories, and you will learn a great deal about life and how to grow up gracefully. Do not miss this book.
